Legislation
For ease of reference, many of the Acts related to trade, business or investment have been identified. For example, in the case of trade, some of the most relevant Acts include the Customs Act 78:01, as well as those related to the importation and exportation of specific commodities such as animals, fish, food and drugs, pesticides and toxic chemicals etc.
Trade Agreements
Importers may be eligible for preferential duty rates for goods originating from countries with which Trinidad and Tobago has trade agreements with. Exporters may also benefit if their products originate in Trinidad and Tobago. As a member of CARICOM, Trinidad and Tobago's importers and exporters may benefit from trade agreements with several countries including Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, as well as the other CARICOM Member States. Double Taxation Treaties
Companies, citizens and residents of Trinidad and Tobago may be able to avoid double taxation through Double Taxation Treaties with several countries, including Brazil, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, the United States of America and Venezuela.
Bilateral Investment Treaties
Investors, including companies and individuals, may benefit from Bilateral Investment Treaties with several countries, including Canada, China, Cuba, France, Germany, Guatemala, India, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
